Response to Chapter 11
Audio and visual technologies are beginning to play a big part in classrooms. One example of traditional audio technology is an oral history. I remember in 3rd grade I was asked to interview a war veteran for a Veteran's Day project. I would love to have my students ascertain information by interviewing grandparents and other family members about their past. I think it would give the students good insight. I would also play music while students are working through CDs or the radio, even though this is a more emerging technology. More examples of emerging audio technology are an MP3 and internet radio. Just like CDs, I can also play MP3 files while students are studying or assign a listening journal where I would play a piece of music and the students would have to write their thoughts and feelings about the piece. One example of traditional visual technology is a bulletin board. My classroom will be covered with posters and pictures related to course material. I will also post student work that I find to be excelling, so they see their hard work in a pleasant way as a reward. An emerging technology I plan to use is the DVD. I will show movies based on course content and as a way of entertainment or reward for good behavior.
